TEHRAN -- Iran has wrapped up several days of war games in the country's south after putting its ground forces, armored units as well as the country's artillery and missiles into test, press said Sunday.

The maneuvers, code-named Beit-ul-Moqaddas 14, were held with the participation of Iranian fighter jets and bombers as well as its helicopters in the Darengoun region near Shiraz.

Press quoted military commanders as saying that the war games were also intended to test the precision of artillery fire and missiles, IRNA reported.

The final phase of the war games was held on Saturday in the presence of Army Commander Major General Mohammad Salimi and several high-ranking military officials.

Some of the weaponry produced by Iran's Defense Ministry, were also tested, press added.

Iran last month unveiled its domestically-made self-propelled howitzer cannon, called R'ad-2 (thunder-2).

"With the operation of this advanced cannon and other projects, the extent of building armored weaponry has deepened, while the volume of the produced arms can meet the demand for such weapons by the country's armed forces," Defense Minister Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani said at its launch.

Shamkhani in August pledged that his ministry would push ahead with plans to develop a `defensive' military force for the country to act as a deterrent to regional and international threats.

"The ministry has launched a comprehensive plan to produce and improve conventional arms for defensive purposes in the aftermath of the crippling sanctions imposed during and after the 1980-1988 Iraqi-imposed war," Shamkhani said.

The Iranian defense minister concluded by saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran has succeeded in producing its own version of a transport plane, a combat helicopter, a submarine and a warship.
